IPL 2022: CSK CEO confirms, Ruturaj Gaikwad ‘Yet to clear fitness test, will join Surat camp on March 18’
Chennai Super Kings have long begun their preparations with their very own camp in Surat. The likes of captain MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ambati Rayudu and Co. have all made the trip in a bid to get in shape and rhythm ahead of the new season. Gaikwad, one of the vital cogs in last season’s title win, was absent having been called up to the NCA for a white ball camp.
Gaikwad teamed up with the likes of KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Shardul Thakur in Bengaluru, but a question mark on his fitness still remains. Nonetheless, CSK are consciously optimistic that Gaikwad should be back to his very best, with the CEO confirming that the 2021 Orange Cap holder will join the team soon.
Speaking to Insidesport, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to join the CSK camp in Surat by 17th or 18th March.”
When quizzed whether Gaikwad had cleared his fitness test, Viswanathan said, “No not yet.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad is an instrumental figure in the CSK line-up which has already lost Faf du Plessis in the auction. Gaikwad’s form and his consistency saw him win the Orange Cap and earn a call up to the Indian side, and the 24-year-old from Maharashtra will be keen to do so once more, especially with the T20 World Cup around the corner in Australia later this year.
Chennai Super Kings will kick start the 15th edition of the IPL on 26th March as they face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
