IPL 2022 Big Update: IPL to start on March 26 – As reported by InsideSport, the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will start on March 26 in Mumbai. The final will be played on May 29. The good news is that the matches will have at least 25% crowd present. However, the BCCI is yet to take a call on the venue for the playoffs and the final. The BCCI finalised the dates after a long IPL governing council meeting on Thursday. Even though BCCI had zeroed in on March 27 as the start date, following a request from broadcast partner Star, the Indian board decided to advance the date to March 26. The reason for that is the weekend. As IPL has always begun with one match on an opening day, BCCI wants to keep the tradition intact.

While there were talks regarding hosting the playoffs in Ahmedabad, the BCCI has decided to wait and watch. Apart from three stadiums in Mumbai — Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and Wankhede Stadium — Pune’s MCA Stadium will together host 70 matches in Maharashtra. The venue for the three playoffs and the final will be decided later.

The primary reason for holding off the IPL playoff venue is the franchises objecting to Mumbai Indians playing at home venue, especially with crowd presence.
