“Both the matters are being discussed. Due diligence for Ahmedabad franchise is still on, once that is done we will let you know. But IPL Media Rights is no way connected to that. Yes, some delays have happened but the tenders for new cycle will be released soon”, said top BCCI official to InsideSport.in

IPL Media Rights Tender & Ahmedabad Franchise: Contrary to what the BCCI member told InsideSport, the website has reliably learnt that a very powerful member of BCCI is completely against giving the ownership of IPL team to Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) who allegedly also has investments in a betting company.

The other members of BCCI meanwhile are of the view that the team as announced should be granted to CVC Capital Partner promoter entity when initially they have cleared all technical & due-diligence rounds.

According to the available information this tussle has led to completion of formalities with the Ahmedabad franchise winners – but also has resulted in delay of release in IPL Media Rights Tender.

It is worth noting that Irelia Company Pte Ltd was announced as the highest bidder at 5625 Cr for the Ahmedabad franchise.

When will be the issue sorted? When the IPL media rights tender will be released?

InsideSport has further learnt that until or unless the issue surrounding the ownership of Ahmedabad franchise is not decided – the IPL Media Rights tender will not be released.

The tender has been drafted with an assumption of 10 team IPL for the next cycle. As the 10th IPL team stays undecided, the tender can’t be released as per one of the source closely working with the BCCI on the commercial tenders.

According to the source, once the issue of ownership of Ahemdabad is decided which should happen very soon – the IPL Media Rights tender will also be released in the market.

Potential Bidders Getting Anxious: Meanwhile the potential bidders for the IPL Media Rights tender are also getting anxious about the tender.

“We were expecting that the tenders will be released before the end of November but I guess BCCI was busy with the T20 World Cup, hence the delay. Meanwhile we are preparing ourselves for the bid”, said one of the top broadcasting company honcho who will surely be throwing hat in the ring for the next cycle of rights.

How much the Media Rights tender should fetch? According to the industry estimates the media rights tender should easily fetch 4-5 Billion for the BCCI. Some of the big names including incumbent Disney Star Network will be in the fray for the rights.
