After being associated with Mumbai Indians for almost 11 years, Sri Lankan veteran pacer Lasith Malinga took the duty of fast bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals in 2022. In RR’s final game against CSK for the IPL 2022 group stage, Pathirana in what happens to be his second game of the campaign had his dream come true, when he bowled in front of his idol.

Pathirana had an excellent debut in IPL 2022 in the previous game where he scalped two important wickets of Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya of Gujarat Titans, he continues his brilliant performance against Rajasthan Royals. Though Pathirana failed to pick a wicket in today’s game, he will surely be a great asset for MS Dhoni and his team.

• Pathirana shot into the limelight during the Under-19 World Cup 2022, where played four matches and picked up seven wickets
• He has the nickname of ‘New Malinga’ because of his slingy action and express pace – which resembles Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga.
• Pathirana has been a part of the CSK contingent since last season. He has been a net bowler for the Chennai outfits.
• This season he was bought by CSK as a replacement for Adam Milne after the latter was ruled out due to injury.
