IPL 2022 Awards: Jos Buttler MOST VALUABLE Player of IPL 2022, Umran Malik named EMERGING PLAYER: Check Full Awards LIST of IPLJos Buttler had a season for the ages as he dominated the post season awards ceremony after a record breaking year with the Rajasthan Royals. Opening the batting, the Englishman scored 863 runs in 17 matches, with four centuries. Buttler finished the season with the most fours (83) and sixes (45) and has the second most runs in an IPL season behind Virat Kohli. The RR opener almost singlehandedly got his team to the final and was crowned the most valuable player of the season, in what has been a stellar campaign for the Englishman.
Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals)
Award: Purple Cap
Yuzvendra Chahal had a point to prove this season after falling out of favour with Team India and with RCB opting to let him go. Signed by the Rajasthan Royals, Chahal produced the best ever season by a spinner in the IPL, beating Imran Tahir’s record of 26 wickets back in 2018. The RR spinner faced stiff competition from Wanindu Hasaranga, but eventually sealed the Purple Cap in his final over of the season, with his tally of 27 wickets.
Dinesh Karthik (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Award: Super Striker of the season
At 36, Dinesh Karthik showcased a new avatar on his return to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, donning the finisher’s hat in some style. Karthik excelled in accelerating at the back end of the innings and played some stunning cameos throughout the season to help RCB reach the playoffs. All in All, Karthik scored 330 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 183.33 at a stunning average of 55. Such were DK’s exploits that the veteran earned a recall to the Indian team after three years for the South Africa series.
Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Award: Emerging player of the season
Umran Malik made the cricketing world stand up and take notice of his searing in a fantastic season with the Sunrisers. Just 22 years old, Malik bowled at some searing pace, clocking above 150 kmph with ease in a stellar first full season in the IPL. The Kashmiri pacer finished with 22 wickets for the season and almost bowled the fastest delivery of the season, only for Lockie Ferguson to breach the mark in the final. Malik’s form saw him fast tracked into the Indian side, earning a call up for the South Africa series.
Evin Lewis (Lucknow Super Giants)
Award: Best Catch of the season
In arguably the best match of the season, Evin Lewis’ fielding brilliance turned the tide in Lucknow Super Giants’ favour against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Defending 3 off the last two balls, Evin Lewis pulled off a stunning one handed running catch to dismiss Rinku Singh to help seal the win. The victory saw LSG qualify for the playoffs and ended KKR’s campaign effectively.
