IPL 2022 Auction: Mikayo Dorji takes in MS Dhoni’s advice – Bhutan’s Mikayo Dorji has been the talk of the town after he became the only player from Bhutan to register in the upcoming IPL 2022 Auction. Dorji is one of the stars of the game in his own country and last year became the first player from Bhutan to play in franchise cricket. While he understands an auction bid is unlikely, he continues to follow the word of advice of CSK captain MS Dhoni and is hopeful that a bid will one day knock on his door. Mikayo Dorji became the first player from the Land of the Thunder Dragon to play in a franchise-based league outside the country. He represented Lalitpur Patriots in the Everest Premier League in Nepal last year and is one of the 318 overseas players to have made themselves available for the auction.

The 22-year-old is not new to India, having studied at Saint Joseph’s school in Darjeeling where he took cricket seriously, while also visiting the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai in 2018 and 2019 to work on his bowling action. During one of those visits, he met legendary former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who offered some word of advice, which Dorji continues to keep with him to this day. On Friday, he shared a video of his interaction with the CSK captain:

He captioned the post with Dhoni’s words, writing: “Keep it simple. Focus more on the process and less on the results. If you get the process right you will get the result. And enjoy, don’t take too much pressure”

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Dorji said, “Playing in the IPL is an ultimate dream for me. People saw that there was one player in the auction list from Bhutan and my friends started calling me. But they don’t know (laughs) that this is just the initial round, and the names are going to be shortlisted further. If I am honest to myself, my name will not be there in the main list after it is trimmed. Anyways, just registering is a big deal for Bhutan.”
