IPL 2022 Auction: 3 Big Rule changes – The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is just over a month away as franchises prepare for the 15th edition of the cash rich league. The auction is set to be a huge event for the teams, with all franchises hitting the reset button. The auction will see some huge changes with the addition of two new teams to the fray. No RTM Card

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction will see the absence of Right to Match (RTM) cards. The previous mega auctions gave the the franchises the chance to match the equal the highest bid if the player had been with the franchise before. The RTM card offered the teams the chance to retain most of their core after retentions, but the absence of these cards will likely see a major overhaul for all teams

COVID-19 norms

The IPL 2022 auction will be held in a bio-secure environment in Bengaluru. The officials representing the franchises will have to follow all COVID-19 norms and have to be cleared negative before entering the bubble. The franchise representatives will be required to produce an RT PCR Negative test to be cleared 24 hours in advance.

Follow Player Purse norms

Ahead of the retentions, the IPL Governing Council announced that the player purse for the new season had been increased to Rs 90 Cr, a rise in Rs 10 Cr from the previous editions. The auction will also mark the second time a draft system is applied before the auction with the entry of two new teams in Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

Retention slabs were also changed in the process, with only four players were allowed to be retained by the existing team ahead of the auction. Teams were directed to hold players in two combinations – two Indian players and two overseas players or three Indian players and one overseas player.
