“We have seen reports and we will be happy to host the IPL in Sri Lanka. We will initiate talks with the BCCI regarding this soon,” Mohan de Silva, the secretary of the SLC, told Cricbuzz. “The Covid situation is not bad here in Sri Lanka and you can be assured we will be very warm hosts.”
India reported 2,64,202 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Friday. While Maharashtra reported 46,406 new COVID-19 cases, Delhi reported 28,867 new COVID-19 cases. The unprecedented rise in COVID cases has put BCCI on the backfoot.
IPL 2022 – IPL Season 15 in South Africa? If the Covid-19 virus doesn’t subside in the next few weeks, BCCI is planning to move IPL Season 15 to South Africa. According to a report by The Indian Express, the Proteas nation has emerged as PLAN-B ahead of UAE for the BCCI to host IPL 2022.
“We can’t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players,” a BCCI official is quoted by the newspaper.
Meanwhile, BCCI is preparing up another PLAN to stage the entire IPL in Maharashtra. The development comes amid a fresh spike in COVID cases in the country. The final schedule & venue will be announced after IPL 2022 mega Auction.
