IPL 2022: Vijay Dahiya to assist Andy Flower in Lucknow? The new IPL franchise backed by RPSG is in full swing to bolster its coaching department. After roping in Andy Flower as head coach and Gautam Gambhir as the mentor, the Lucknow IPL team is close to agreeing on a deal with former India wicketkeeper-batsman Vijay Dahiya as the assistant coach. Vijay Dahiya is the former teammate of Gautam Gambhir. The two shared dressing rooms in Delhi and later in Kolkata Knight Riders. Vijay Dahiya is currently the coach of Uttar Pradesh. His team is facing Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy pre-quarterfinals. He refused to comment on the matter. Dahiya was earlier assistant coach of Delhi Capitals.
“I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise,” Vijay Dahiya said in a statement after refusing the appointment earlier.

On Saturday, the Lucknow franchise announced roping in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of the team ahead of their maiden season in IPL.
“Gambhir brings with him a proven track record in the IPL as captain for KKR. He also has a penchant for grooming young talent which Lucknow feels will suit them well ahead of what is expected to be a tough initiation into an increasingly competitive IPL scenario,” TOI quoted a source.

Later, Gautam Gambhir himself confirmed the development in a tweet.

On Friday, the Lucknow franchise announced the signing of Andy Flower as their head coach with special permission. InsideSport has also learnt that it has finalised a deal with former Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul. However, it will not be able to announce anything due to BCCI’s temporary ban on making any official announcement due to ongoing issue related to CVC backed Ahmedabad IPL franchise.
