IPL 2022: 5 picks that defied all logic feat. Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran & Riyan Parag
Krunal was brought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), while Pooran and Parag were snapped by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Few other players Rahul Tewatia, Shivam Mavi, and Abhishek Sharma also bagged whopping amounts, despite having an average season.
Here are InsideSport we look at five players who defied all logic during mega auctions
IPL 2022: Krunal Pandya was brought LSG for 8. 60 crores1: Krunal Pandya
The elder of the Pandya brother Krunal could only manage to score 143 runs and picked up 5 wickets in the 13 matches he played in the 2021 season of IPL. Naturally, MI did not bid for all-rounder during the mega auctions. However, few teams like LSG and Gujarat Titans were hell-bent on acquiring the services of Krunal. LSG eventfully bagged him for 8. 25 crores.

Not only the 2021 season of IPL, but Krunal also does not have a great season in IPL 2020 either. LSG thought it otherwise and shelled a huge amount to buy him. The southpaw getting such a huge amount certainly defied logic.
IPL 2022: SRH shelled a whopping amount for Pooran2: Nicolas Pooran
Former New Zealand pace bowler Simon Doull was shocked, to say the least when SRH shelled 10.25 crores to bag Nicholas Pooran. The wicketkeeper- batter could score just 85 runs in 12 games at an average of 7.72 for PBKS in IPL 2021. The southpaw also registered four ducks and PBKS did not bid this time for Pooran during the mega auction.
SRH though were firm on getting him onboard. Pooran comes with a reputation to give the ball a real whack and can take the game away from the opposition with a blink of an eye. Shelling 10.25 crores for an out-of-form player though surprised a lot of people.

IPL 2022: RR brought Parag for 3.80 crores3: Riyan Parag
Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag failed to impress in IPL 2021 as he could score just 93 runs in 11 games. The right-hand batter also failed to close games and that affected RR badly. He also was ineffective with the ball in hand. It seemed he would be bagged for a much low price. RR though thought it otherwise and brought him for 3.80 crores.
IPL 2022: Tewatia was brought by PBKS for 9 crores4: Rahul Tewatia
Rahul Tewatia slots in next on the list. The RR all-rounder scored only 155 runs and picked up just 8 wickets in 14 matches in the last season of IPL. PBKS though broke the bank to acquire the services of Tewatia. They paid 9 crores. His dismal IPL record in 2021 did not stop PBKS from going all-out in mega auctions.
5: Abishek Sharma
SRH all-rounder AbisheK Sharma comes next on this list. The southpaw could score just 98 runs and picked 4 wickets in the 8 games he played for SRH. He was dismal with both bat and ball. He was also dropped from playing XI for a few games in IPL 2021. Despite that, the SRH management still managed to get him for 6.5 crores.
