IPL 2021: Sunil Gavaskar’s big prediction, says, ‘Mumbai Indians will be hard to beat’ in IPL 2021- Cricket Legend Sunil Gavaskar believes five-times IPL champions Mumbai Indians will be a tough competitor for all the other IPL teams. He feels that the defending champions will be tough to beat in the IPL 2021. The statement comes after Mumbai Indians players SuryaKumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Ishan Kishan helped India clinch the limited-overs series 2-1 against England. While Ishan Kishan, SuryaKumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya smacked maiden fifties on debut, Hardik Pandya continued his top form for the Men in Blues.

Gavaskar heaped praise over MI players who made impactful knocks for India against England.

“Mumbai Indians will be hard to beat. We have just seen their players coming to form. Ishan Kishan, Suryakunar Yadav – the way they have batted. Hardik Pandya – the way he has come today,” Hindustan Times quoted Sunil Gavaskar as saying.

Here’s how the Mumbai Indians players fared in the T20Is and ODIs:

SuryaKumar Yadav: 89 runs in 2 T20Is

Ishan Kishan: 60 runs in 2 T20Is

Krunal Pandya: 95 runs and 1 wicket (ODI series)

Hardik Pandya: 86 runs and 3 wickets (T20I series) 100 runs (ODI series)

Speaking about Hardik Pandya who started bowling full again, Gavaskar said, “Not just for Mumbai Indians, it was important for Indian cricket to see Pandya bowl 9 overs. That shows that he is ready to play in the Test format as well. It’s [the WTC final] in June, there is still time. But the way he’s come back… that is very very good for Mumbai Indians as well as India cricket.

“So, Mumbai Indian players who have participated in the T20I and the ODI series, they have shown that they have been in very good form. You saw Chahal being hammered, you saw Kuldeep being hammered… There is no Rajasthan Royals in the Indian team. So, I don’t know what kind of performance they gonna put up,” he added.

Mumbai Indians will face off Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2021 opener in Chennai on April 9.
