IPL 2021 – RR vs MI LIVE: Suryakumar Yadav fails to impress yet again – Mumbai Indians registered a dominant win against the Rajasthan Royals but concerns continue to persist for the defending champions, with Suryakumar Yadav’s form nosediving with each passing game. Rohit Sharma and Co. registered a convincing eight-wicket win at Sharjah, but Yadav failed to make a significant contribution in a game where Ishan Kishan marked his return. Suryakumar will have to buckle his ideas up before heading into the final game of the league stage, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.

Suryakumar Yadav had the perfect opportunity to play himself in and get some runs under his belt, but let another opportunity slip by on Tuesday. Coming in after the fall of Rohit Sharma chasing a paltry 91, Yadav looked in good touch as he bagged a couple of boundaries, before miscuing a Mustafizur Rahman delivery to depart for just 13. It continued the Mumbai Indians’ star’s poor run of form in the IPL 2021, raining further concern for the franchise and the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

  • Suryakumar Yadav has seen his form dip massively in the IPL. In the six innings in Phase 2, he has scored 3, 5, 8, 0, 33 and 13. In IPL 2021, he has averaged 18.50 scoring 222 runs in 12 innings.
  • Yadav’s dwindling returns have been a cause of concern, with the 30-year-old being one of the lynchpins of this Mumbai Indians side.
  • Suryakumar is looked at as one of India’s key players in the middle order during the upcoming T20 World Cup, and his lack of runs will certainly be worrisome to Virat Kohli and the team management.
  • With Ishan Kishan returning to form and Shreyas Iyer also available, Yadav will certainly face a tense few days, with October 10 being the deadline to submit final squads for the T20 World Cup.

“Yes, it is a bit of a concern but we still have few matches left in IPL to get them back in form. Hopefully, they will. Suryakumar has been amongst runs for India so he is not a big concern at the moment. Ishan Kishan too did well in Sri Lanka. Virat also spoke to him on Sunday and let’s see how it goes,” a BCCI source told InsideSport on Monday.

“We have Shreyas Iyer as the backup, if there are any concerns, he could be added. But it’s too early to say anything. Ishan Kishan is an important player and so are Suryakumar and others. There is no point speculating,” the BCCI source had told InsideSport earlier.
