IPL 2021: Huge worry for CSK as Faf du Plessis picks up groin injury in CPL 2021-Chennai Super Kings were dealt a huge blow after their star batsman Faf du Plessis picked up a groin injury in the ongoing CPL 2021, just a week before the MS Dhoni-led side faces off against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 Phase. The veteran South African, who captains the St Lucia Kings in the CPL, sat out of the team’s final league stage game due to injury, with Andre Fletcher taking up the reins instead.
Faf du Plessis has been in fine form over the last year, scoring runs at ease and in all conditions during his various stints across the globe. The CSK star however was revealed to have suffered a groin injury against the Barbados Royals, ruling him out of the team’s final league game of the season.

The extent of du Plessis’ injury remains unknown, and his participation in the CPL 2021 semi-finals and the IPL 2021 Phase 2 remains in doubt. The 37-year-old is amongst the leading scorers in the CPL this season and had scored a sensational 84 in his last game for the Kings. In Phase 1 of the IPL, du Plessis was again one of the leading run-getters, scoring 320 runs in just seven games.

Du Plessis has been a staple at the top of the order for CSK over the years, and should he miss out, it will be a huge blow to MS Dhoni and Co. The three-time champions already have doubts about the participation of their England stars Moeen Ali and Sam Curran, while there is no backup in place for Du Plessis, other than Robin Uthappa and N Jagadeesan.
