New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has decided to give all IPL players green-signal to play the league beginning from Sep-19. In an unprecedented move, NZC excused almost all IPL bound Kiwi cricketers from the tour of Bangladesh & Pakistan.

Several first team players, including Williamson, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Lockie Ferguson will be now seen in action in IPL, while New Zealand team under Tom Latham will take on Bangladesh & Pakistan.

White said that the IPL dates coinciding with the Pakistan tour had presented a “unique” challenge.
“It’s a pragmatic approach,” White said. “We’ve always tried to be realistic about the IPL and this particular issue is very much a one-off, caused by a unique set of circumstances.”

IPL 2021 Phase – New-Zealand Cricketers in IPL 2021: This means none of the Kiwi cricketer contracted by the IPL franchises will now be travelling to Bangladesh or Pakistan.

Instead of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham will now lead New Zealand in T20 series against Bangladesh and ODIs against Pakistan

The squad leaves for Bangladesh on August 23 for the T20I series. After that, they move to Pakistan, their first visit to the country since the 2002 tour that was cancelled midway when a bomb blast near the team hotel in Karachi killed 14 people on the morning of what was scheduled to be the second Test.
That tour will start with the first of three ODIs on September 17, followed by five T20Is.

While Latham will captain the side in Bangladesh and Pakistan, the regular skipper Kane Williamson will resume duties for the T20 World Cup after completion of his IPL commitmments.

Ross Taylor was selected for the three ODIs in Pakistan but, with the brief nature of the one-week series and the length of quarantine protocols, it was mutually agreed he would remain at home to prepare for the Indian Test tour and upcoming home summer.

“As the BLACKCAPS proved in England earlier this year, we have good depth in the New Zealand game and I’m confident all the squads chosen will acquit themselves well.”

Mr White confirmed that those BLACKCAPS involved in the prematurely suspended IPL21 would be allowed to re-join their franchises, and complete the competition when it re-starts in September.
