Injury strikes again! Mohammed Siraj suffers ankle sore ahead of World Cup 2023

Siraj's injury comes as a cause for concern ahead of the World Cup 2023 as India is already grappling with fitness injuries of main players

In what could be a major setback for India ahead of the World Cup 2023, the BCCI has provided an injury update. Mohammed Siraj, who was a part of the Test side against the West Indies, was rested for the ODIs. Now, BCCI have provided an update on why the pacer was rested.

Siraj suffers ankle sole ahead of World Cup 2023

Siraj was released from India’s squad as a precautionary measure as he was suffering from a sore ankle, BCCI said. Further, BCCI did not name a replacement for Siraj in the ODI squad.

“Mohd. Siraj has been released from Team India’s ODI squad ahead of the three-match series against the West Indies.

The right-arm pacer has a sore ankle and as a precautionary measure has been advised rest by the BCCI medical team.

The team has not called for a replacement player for the ODI series, which commences on July 27, 2023 in Barbados,” BCCI’s statement read.

Injury woes for India ahead of World Cup 2023

Siraj’s sore ankle comes as the latest addition to India’s injury woes ahead of the World Cup 2023. Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s potential comeback before the World Cup 2023 could do good for India, the team can’t afford losing more players to injury, which would only further destabilise the team.

The list of injured players for India feature the likes of KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Siraj, Rishabh Pant and more. While Pant’s recovery might take longer, the others are ready to make a comeback to the side, with their eyes fixed on cementing a spot in the World Cup 2023 India squad.

World Cup 2023

ENG vs NZ will mark the beginning of World Cup 2023 which will also be a repeat of 2019 final. Hosts India will begin their campaign against Australia in Chennai. PCB objected to India vs Pakistan in Ahmedabad as well as matches against Australia and Afghanistan in Bengaluru and Chennai.

Despite objections from Pakistan, the blockbuster IND vs PAK match will go ahead in Ahmedabad. Pakistan requested the match to be shifted to either Chennai or Bengaluru or Kolkata. The reason PCB cited was political.
