Indonesia Open Highlights- HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth booked spot in the quarterfinal at Indonesia Open 2023. Prannoy clinched a 21-18, 21-16 win against Angus Ng Ka Long. Srikanth meanwhile defeated compatriot Lakshya Sen 21-17, 22-20. India’s Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinal. PV Sindhu’s campaign meanwhile has come to an end. She suffered a 21-18, 21-16 loss against World No.3 Tai Tzu Ying in the second round on Thursday, 15th June 2023. Priyanshu Rajawat lost to Anthony Ginting 22-20, 15-21, 15-21.

Kidambi Srikanth vs Lakshya Sen
Taking the court first, Srikanth used his vast experience to quell the challenge of Lakshya Sen 21-17 22-20 in an all-Indian second round duel. It was a hard-fought battle between the two Indians but Srikanth bagged the crucial moments with his calmness and experience to prevail over Lakshya in the match that lasted 45 minutes.
The win ensured Srikanth’s dominance over his younger countrymate as he took his head-to-head record to 3-0 over Lakshya. It was Lakshya who started on a positive note, taking an early 4-0 lead in the opening game before Srikanth clawed his way back.
It was even stevens till 17 points before Srikanth came out attacking and used the court to great effect to tire out his younger rival and win four straight points to pocket the first game.
The second game was no different as both shuttlers matched each other till 13 points before Srikanth won six straight points to surge ahead to 20-14. But the 2021 world championships silver medallist squandered six match points as Lakshya bounced back in style to draw level at 20 apiece.
Srikanth, however, had the last laugh as he kept his composure to win the next two points and seal the affair. Srikanth will next play Li Shi Feng of China, who upset fourth seed Loh Kean Yew of Singapore 21-19 21-14 in another second round match
HS Prannoy beat Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-16 in 43 minutes. The Malaysia Masters champion will face third seed Kodai Naraoka, who beat him last week, for a place in the semifinal.
Priyanshu Rajawat put on a good fight against Anthony Ginting before losing the contest 22-20, 15-21, 15-21. For a major portion of the first game, Ginting was leading the contest. The Indonesian enterd the interval with a 11-5 lead. Rajawat made a terrific comeback after the interval as he reduced the deficit and took a 15-14 lead.
Neck-to-neck battle ensuded and Ginting managed to go ahead and was leading 20-18. However successive errors from the Indonesian helped Rajawat level the scores 20-20. Rajawat grabbed the opportunity and went on to in the next two points to take the first game.
In the second game, Rajawat started off with a 6-2 lead. However Ginting fought back with five straight points and took the lead. Close battle ensued between both the players and a service error from Ginting helped Rajawat enter the interval with a 11-10 lead. After the interval, Ginting with three straight points took back the lead. This time he didn’t allow Rajawat to make a comeback and won the game 21-15. In the third game, Ginting dominated completely as he led right from the start and won the match to enter the quarterfinal.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying
PV Sindhu lost for the ninth successive time against World No.3 Tai Tzu Ying. The Taiwanese started dominating the contest right from the start.
In the first game, she raced to a 4-0 lead. She went on to enter the interval with a six-point advantage. Sindhu tried to close the gap in the second-half of the first game. She was trailing 17-19 at one stage. A net-error from Sndhu helped Tai Tzu Ying get to the game point and the Taiwanese soon won the game 21-18.
In the second game, Sindhu gave a good fight and took lead for the first time in the match as she took her score to 5-4. Tai Tzu Ying however took control immediately as she took five straight points and raced to a 10-6 lead. Net-error from Sindhu soon followed and Tai Tzu Ying entered the interval with a three-point advantage.
After the resumption, Sindhu fought back yet abgain and went on to take a lead. Tai Tzu Ying erred in serve and Sindhu had a 16-14 lead. However with a mix of smash and drop shots, Tai Tzu Ying snatched away the lead from Sindhu.
Under pressure, Sindhu made an unforced error by hitting the shuttle long behind the baseline that gave 18-16 lead to Tai. The Taiwanese won the next two points and a net-error from Sindhu helped the World No.3 clinch an easy win in the end.
In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag also made the quarters after early exits in their last two tournaments. The world No 4 pair beat He Ji Ting and Zhou Hao Dong 21-17, 21-15.
