What happened during the Thomas Cup?
- India faced a strong Denmark side in the semifinal that had World No.1 Viktor Axelsen and World No.3 Anders Antonsen in their ranks. In the first men’s singles, Demark clinched victory with Axelsen defeating Lakshya Sen in straight sets.
- Then India’s Men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched a hard-fought 21-18, 21-23, 22-20 victory over Kim Atrup and Mathias Christansen to level the contest 1-1.

However in the second men’s doubles, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala faced straight set defeat against Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Frederick Sogaard.
- It was left to the last men’s singles to decide the winner of the contest. Taking the responsibility on his shoulders, Prannoy lost the first set 13-21 against Gemke.
- To make matters worse, he even twisted his ankle and had to receive medical attention. He couldn’t move freely on the court and the Indian camp had few worrying faces.
- Prannoy however stayed strong and decided to give a fight and resumed the match. With his grit and determination, he made a brilliant comeback as he outplayed the Dane by winning the next two sets 21-9 and 21-12 and became India’s hero as he helped the nation enter the Thomas Cup final for the first-ever time.
- India went on to defeat Indonesia 3-0 in the final to win the historic title.
