Indian Team for SA Series: After IPL 2022, Suryakumar Yadav likely to miss South Africa series, selector says, ‘Won’t be rushed to return’
On Monday, Suryakumar Yadav was ruled out of the entire IPL 2022. He sustained the injury during Mumbai Indians’ match against Gujarat Titans on May 6.
“Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2022 owing to a left forearm muscle injury. Mr. Yadav sustained the injury during the team’s fixture against Gujarat Titans on 6th May, 2022,” a BCCI press release read.
Indian Team for SA Series: Why Suryakumar’s injury is a blow for Team India?
- With Virat Kohli set to be rested, Suryakumar Yadav would have played a crucial role in the series.
- Furthermore, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are both out of form.
- Suryakumar Yadav was in good form before the injury blow. He scored 303 runs in 8 matches for MI at an average of 43.29 including three half-centuries.

While Suryakumar is still is under Mumbai Indians medical team’s supervision, he will visit the National Cricket Academy (NCA) next week for rehabilitation.
“Once he comes to the NCA, we will know the full extent of his injury. We will make a decision accordingly. He is expected to visit the NCA by next week. He is an important player in our plans for T20 World Cup, so he won’t be rushed,” the selector said.

However, one good news for Team India is that Rohit Sharma will be available to lead Team India for the South Africa series. While there were talks about him taking a break after IPL, as Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for IPL 2022 Playoffs, he will get a week-long break.
“Rohit will be available for the South Africa series. We will have a selection meeting during the playoffs. The squad will assemble at the NCA five days before the series for a fitness test,” the selector said.
