India’s Merdeka Cup fixtures revealed, Blue Tigers face host Malaysia

The Indian football team, led by Sunil Chhetri, will meet host Malyasia on October 13th, according to the Merdeka Cup schedule.

The Indian football team has been drawn to compete in the Merdeka Cup Tournament 2023 against Malaysia. FA Malaysia hosted the draw event on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. The 42nd Merdeka Cup, organised by the Football Association of Malaysia, is scheduled for October 2023. There will be four teams competing: India, Lebanon, Palestine, and Malaysia.

On October 13, 2023, the match will be held in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, the other semi-final, which will take place earlier on the same day, pits Palestine versus Lebanon. The semi-finalists will meet in the final on October 17. The two losing clubs will compete for third place in a play-off.

However, this will be India’s 32nd international match against Malaysia. The last time they met was in a friendly in Kolkata in 2011, when the Blue Tigers won 3-2. India will compete in the Merdeka Tournament 2023 for the first time since 2001 and for the 18th time overall. India’s finest results were runners-up in 1959 and 1964.
