ISL clubs request AIFF to reconsider mandate to release players for national camp

“I urge all clubs to continue supporting our national teams. Especially in the upcoming months packed with some major tournaments. AFC U23 qualifiers, Asian Games, World Cup Qualifiers and AFC Asian Cup. We as a nation want to be able to put our best players on the pitch against the footballing giants of Asia and the World. Show them that we are not to be taken lightly.” Stimac added.

Several Indian Super League clubs have written to the All India Football Federation. Stating their reluctance to release players for AFC Asian Cup U-23 qualifiers. This is due to the fact that the matches took place in the middle of the domestic season. It is outside of the FIFA international window.

The U23 Asian Cup qualifiers will take place from September 6 to September 12 in Dalian, China. The preparatory camp will commence in Bhubaneswar on August 12.The Durand Cup will be held from July 20 until August 20. The AFC Cup qualifying rounds will take place from August 16 through August 22. Allowing players to be freed for the national camp would mean depleting the squad.
