3. Shardul Thakur

Insidesport

Often referred to as “Lord Thakur,” Shardul has a knack for picking wickets at crucial junctures. However, his bowling seems to have lost some zip. Thakur was taken to the cleaners during the first ODI against New Zealand recently, as he gave away 63 runs in his nine overs.

With the bat, Shardul averages a shade above 25 in ODIs, but that does not guarantee his spot. With the next World Cup being conducted in India, team India might be tempted to play a spin all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya as its two all-rounders. Hence, Shardul might find it hard to find a place in the Indian squad.

2. Rishabh Pant

Insidesport

After a series of failures with the bat, time is running out for Rishabh Pant. Barring his poor performance in T20Is, Pant failed to get going during the first ODI encounter against New Zealand. The left-handed batter managed to score just 15 runs before being cleaned up by express pacer Lockie Ferguson. While his ODI numbers are marginally better in T20Is, it is the consistency that he has lacked. Overall, in 11 ODIs in 2022, the southpaw has scored 213 runs.

1. Shikhar Dhawan

Insidesport

Shikhar Dhawan is currently leading the Indian ODI squad against New Zealand. However, the Indian selectors need to make a decision on the senior batter if he is in team India’s plans for the upcoming ICC event. Despite doing decently with the bat, it is Dhawan’s strike rate that raises some questions about his selection for the World Cup.

In some of his recent ODI knocks, he scored 40 off 68 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare, four off 16 against South Africa in Lucknow, and eight off 14 against the same opponent in Delhi. With Shubman Gill doing so well with the bat at the opening slot, Dhawan might need to work on his scoring rate to confirm his spot for the 50-over World Cup.
