India-W vs Malaysia-W HIGHLIGHTS: India women secure second straight win, beat Malaysia Women by 30 runs (DL) in rain interrupted match

India were quite fortunate to bowl five overs in the contest to ensure the DL rule would come into effect. But the Indian team were prepared for the rain as they used  spinners right from the start.

We knew when we were taking the field that the rain could come, so the priority was to bowl the first five overs as soon as possible. Meghana and Shafali batted really well, and in the end, Richa came in and expressed herself. We wanted Shafali to stay at the wicket, it was very important for her to get runs, happy that she scored a crucial 40 to get her confidence back,” India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said after the match.

With India being favourityes for the clash, they decided to rest Smriti Mandana, Sneh Rana, Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Thakur. Batting first, India women took charge right from the outset. The new opening pair of Sabbineni Meghana and Shafali Verma looked in top form with the former being in great mood with the bat.

They added more than 100 runs for the opening partnership. When the first wicket fell of Meghana, she had already scored 69 from 53 balls. It included 11 fours and one six. Shefali Varma also added 46 runs to the team total. However, it was the late flourish from Richa Ghosh, which pushed them towards 180 plus.

In the second innings, Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped one wicket each to reduce Malaysia women to 6/2. They reached 16/2 before rain interrupted play.
