But the recent return will be cut short as he has been advised rest for three weeks for an UNKNOWN injury as per a Cricbuzz report. R Ashwin suffered from multiple injuries during his career that derailed his white-ball career.
For the selectors, R Ashwin continues to feature in plans especially with T20 World Cup in Australia and 50-over 2023 World Cup in India. His return to the white-ball side is no coincidence as Ashwin has been backed by the selectors, captain Rohit Sharma besides Rahul Dravid.
Now that he has returned to all three formats, the selectors also want to manage his workload and keep him free from injury. But he is expected to be back for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in February.

While he did struggle in the ODI series, conceding 121 runs for just a wicket in the two matches that he played in, the selectors are ready to overlook that considering it was his first ODI series in five years. However, as he will be derailed by another injury, it will not be until the England tour that he will feature in any international white-ball match although he is expected to play in the IPL 2022 if picked in the auction.
