India vs Sri Lanka Series – Dasun Shanaka new Sri Lanka Captain? Sri Lanka Cricket is all set to appoint a new captain for the series against India. According to reports in Sri Lankan media, after an embarrassing thrashing by England in the just-concluded series, the current captain Kusal Perera will be dropped. Perera will be replaced by All-Rounder Dasun Shanaka as the new white-ball captain of the Sri Lanka team.

India vs Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka set to lead Srilanka in the India series, likely to replace Kusal Perera

India & Sri Lanka will play 3 match ODI and 3 match T20 series and responsibility to lead Sri Lanka will once again be handed over to Shanaka. According to leading news publication in Sri Lanka, The Papare Shanaka’s announcement as captain will be made in next 24-48 hours.

It is worth noting that 29-year old Shanaka has earlier also led Sri Lanka. Under his captaincy Lanka had defeated Pakistan in 2019 T20Is series by 3-0. He was also named captain for the West Indies T20 series earlier this year but due to visa issues, Shanaka could not travel with the team on time.

Angelo Mathews led Sri Lanka in Shanaka’s absence.

The thing which goes against Shanaka is that he has never led Lanka in a ODI match. Not only captain but Sri Lanka team will also get a new vice-captain in form of Dhananjaya De Silva. The stylish middle-order batsman will be Shanaka’s deputy for this series according to the publication.

Kusal Perera, who took over as Captain against Bangladesh and England in two away tours, endured a tough time losing 7 matches out of the 9 limited-overs encounters. The selectors have believed to have decided to release Perera from captaincy due to the effect of captaincy on his natural game being the opening batsman and the wicket-keeper of the team.
