Last week, PCB confirmed that Shaheen Afridi was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 having suffered a right knee ligament injury. Afridi has been advised 4-6 weeks of rest by PCB’s advisory committee and independent specialists. He is expected to return to competitive cricket in October before the T20 World Cup in Australia.
The 21-year-old however has still travelled to the UAE with the team. According to media reports in Pakistan, Babar Azam requested Afridi to ‘STAY BACK’ with the Pakistan team for the entire duration of the event. The 21-year-old is currently undergoing knee treatment in Dubai and will stay in the team hotel itself. Though any chance of Afridi playing in the tournament is already ruled out.
“Babar wanted him to stay with the team. Management wants to closely monitor his injury rehab. He will be staying in Dubai itself with the team.” confirmed PCB spokesperson to the local media in Pakistan.
