ODI World Cup 2023: Tournament likely to start on October 5, India vs Pakistan venue to be decided
For the unversed according to reports, the ODI World Cup is likely to start on October 5 and end on November 19. BCCI had finalized 12 venues for the showpiece event, with the tournament opener and final being held in Ahmedabad.
However, PCB chairman Najam Sethi is having reservations about playing India vs Pakistan in Ahmedabad. Pakistan have also stated they will only play the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium and not any other matches.
BCCI are keen on INDO PAK clash being played in Ahmedabad owing to the one-lakh capacity crowd. The venue for the mega clash will be discussed mainly during SGM. The Fate of Asia Cup will also be decided, with India stating clearly that they won’t travel to Pakistan. BCCI and PCB are also not agreeing on the Hybrid model.
Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh discussed as venues for Asia Cup
With India clear on its stance of not traveling to Pakistan for the Continental Cup, Pakistan had sent two proposals to BCCI to hold India’s matches at a neutral venue, with the final being also staged there if India makes it to the summit clash. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the front runners to host Asia Cup.
“I have not seen the proposal. But there has been no change in our stance. We want the tournament to be played at a neutral venue and not the UAE. We can’t risk any more injuries with the kind of heat there.
Sri Lanka is best suited for the tournament. As of now, we have not discussed anything about boycotting it. Let’s first understand the situation, and then we will take a call,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
