Gill’s half-century comes at a time when India could be dealing with a potential crisis following Rohit Sharma’s COVID-19 test. Sharma is forced into quarantine until June 29, two days ahead of the IND vs ENG 5th Test match.
To make matters worse, India do not have a backup opener after the team management opted against bringing a replacement for KL Rahul. Gill’s half-century hence comes as a sigh of relief to the team and Rahul Dravid will hope that the youngster can carry there form into the Edgbaston Test.
