“Our focus is on T20s as the T20 World Cup is approaching. We will have a mixture of youth and senior players. But all T20 regulars will be rested for the series. Shikhar will lead as he is the most senior pro on ODIs,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

The short tour was supposed to happen in 2021 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, the tour has been cramped between the West Indies tour and Asia Cup.
With Rahul Dravid preparing for the Asia Cup and taking a well-deserved short break, VVS Laxman will be in charge of the tour. The NCA director was also in charge of India’s tour of Ireland and 1st T20 against England besides the two T20 warm-up games.
“Yes, Laxman will be going with the team in Zimbabwe. Rahul has been travelling back and forth with the team and hasn’t had a chance to be with his family. Before Asia Cup, all T20 players will have a short break,” the official said.

Even BCCI President Sourav Ganguly did not like the idea of changing captain frequently. But he said, it is inevitable in current situation.
“I fully agree that it is not ideal to have seven different captains in such a short span of time but it has happened because of an unavoidable situation. No one is at fault for these situations. The calendar is such that we have had to give players breaks and then there have been injuries and we need to factor in workload management also. You got to feel for head coach Rahul (Dravid) as in every series, due to unavoidable circumstances, we have had new captains,” Ganguly told PTI.
Currently, the Indian team is playing a white-ball series against England and after this, Shikhar Dhawan-led India will take on West Indies in a three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series from July 22.
Star batter Virat Kohli, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and regular skipper Rohit Sharma are among the senior players who have been rested from the ODIs.
