Having missed out on the series against West Indies, KL Rahul was expected to be named captain and lead the side as India takes on Zimbabwe in three ODIs next month. It has been an injury hell for KL Rahul over the last 12 months and the Indian opener went to Germany to undergo surgery on a sports hernia.
He had since resumed training at the NCA and was supposed to undergo a fitness test before flying out to the Caribbean. However as fate would have it, the 30-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 and had to enter isolation.
In a social media post, Rahul confirmed that his rehabilitation had hit a setback due to COVID-19 and he was still working his way back to full fitness. The Indian vice-captain now faces a race against time to be fit for the Asia Cup, set to be played in UAE later next month.

On Friday, The Selection committee confirmed that Sanju Samson would replace Rahul in the squad for the series against West Indies. There was still hope that the LSG captain could make a return for the Zimbabwe series, but the COVID-19 blow has set his recovery back.
