India tour of Sri Lanka – IND vs SL LIVE 1st ODI: The entire thrust of 2 hour training session on Thursday was on spin attack of Sri Lanka. Coach Mickey Arthur was seen spending most of the time with the Sri Lanka’s spinners. The home team management feels spin-attack will be their trump card to counter attacking Indian T20 stars.

“Spin has always been our strength. Though little short in experience, this spin attack of ours can trouble India this series”, declared SLC’s Technical Committee Chairman & former World Cup winner Aravinda DeSilva to a local news platform.

The same attack was brutally dismissed by the England batsman in just concluded series but DeSilva feels all that can change when they bowl on their own wickets.

“Wickets in Colombo will favor their kind of bowling styles. Team management must be giving them all confidence that they should do well against India”, concluded DeSilva.

India tour of Sri Lanka – IND vs SL LIVE 1st ODI: – What’s so special about Sri Lanka spin attack, why they get better on Sri Lanka pitches?

The performance by the spinners in England draw completely blank for Lanka. Now, as the clash against India is in Colombo, the subcontinent venue which is likely to assist the spinners, Sri Lankan team is confident that spinners will surely deliver for them – check why?

Just check the case of Akila Dananjaya, another spinner with very unorthodox action. The Right arm off break bowler can also bowl leg breaks and has capability to deliver via his ambidextrous approach. As he travel outside Sri Lanka he comes across as a novice with bowling averages as high as 60 – give him the home conditions he bowls like a tiger with lot of guile.

Overall – 36 Matches – 51 Wickets @ 29.52
Overseas – 17 Matches – 11 Wickets @ 60.1
In Sri Lanka – 19 Matches – 40 Wickets @ 20.57

Same is the case with Lakshan Sandakan. The Left arm wrist spinner in the mould of Kuldeep Yadav. His bowling averages drops to 75 in overseas conditions and at home the stats clearly shows huge improvement.

At home with his variations – he makes it difficult for batsman to score against him. His economy rate is 4 at home and 6.5 runs per over outside Sri Lanka.

Lakshan Sandakan Stats
