India Tour of Sri Lanka: Why will India tour Sri Lanka again?

  • Sri Lanka are all set to lose the Asia Cup 2022 hosting rights.
  • Already in a difficult financial situation, Sri Lanka Cricket will lose further money if they are not able to host the Asia Cup.
  • But Sri Lanka is currently in turmoil. The country is facing an economic crisis.
  • With fuel, stock and food shortages, Sri Lanka is on the verge of collapse.
  • With daily power cuts and civil unrest, it is impossible for the country to host a multi-nation tournament.
  • As Sri Lanka Cricket has always been a friendly cricket board to BCCI, the Indian board will once again return the favour.
  • India will play two-match T20s before the Asia Cup to help SLC generate revenue.

The Government of India has already given out a loan of $3 million to help Sri Lanka in a forex-strapped situation. Apart from that, India has also sent 270,000 MT of fuel to help out the neighbouring country.
