India Tour of South Africa: Sourav Ganguly’s huge prediction, ‘India has best best chance to win in South Africa this time’
Speaking on a show called Backstage with Boria, former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has backed the Indian team to make history in South Africa. When quizzed about India’s chances against the Proteas, Ganguly said, “I think we will have a huge chance of winning in South Africa. Just fingers crossed that the series happens.”
Virat Kohli-led side will be aiming to script history after 29 years as they chase India’s first-ever Tes series victory on South Africa soil. India has toured South Africa 7 times in the past for a Test series but hasn’t managed to claim it even once. India know a thing or two about breaking jinxes, having clinched a historic win at the Gabba earlier this year, breaking Australia’s run of 31 games undefeated at the venue.
Ganguly would hope that the off-field “mudslinging” doesn’t affect the team’s performance on the pitch. BCCI and Virat Kohli have been embroiled in a face-off after the latter was sacked as captain with contradictory statements made by Ganguly and Virat Kohli in the press. The BCCI president is yet to address Kohli’s comments but told the press that the BCCI will deal with that situation accordingly.
The Indian captain admitted that the outside chatter wasn’t ideal, but the team remains committed to giving their best in South Africa. Speaking in his press conference, Kohli said, “Lot of things that happen outside are not ideal but you have to do things in your control. I am mentally prepared and excited to do well in South Africa.”
