India A squad is playing a series with host’s A squad at the moment. India A squad members like Hanuma Vihari will be asked to stay back in South Africa for the test series.
“Most of them will come back after the third A Test but maybe a couple will be selected in the main squad and a few who will be net bowler,” the official told PTI.
It has been learnt that the board is still waiting for an advisory from the government and will announce the team’s departure date only after getting an all-clear on the issue.

India Squad SA Series: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami, Rishabh Pant have already assembled in Mumbai & will enter in Bio-Bubble once everything is finalized.
- The first Test will now begin on December 26 in Centurion,
- 2nd Test will be played in Johannesburg from January 3
- 3rd Match will be played in Cape Town from January 11 or 12.
- Cape Town will also stage all the three ODIs.
As per information available with InsideSport.IN, squad announcement will be made right after the Mumbai test & Indian team is expected to fly out either on 15th or 16th via a chartered flight.
The tour has been shortened, with four Twenty20 internationals being postponed until later in the year. CSA has already confirmed India will play three Test matches on their tour which starts later this month but “under the strictest Covid-19 guidelines”.
South Africa has praised India for its “solidarity” in not cancelling the tour amid the emergence of the new COVID variant Omicron. The Indian team will travel on a chartered flight and go straight into a bio-secure environment.

India Squad SA Series: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah have been invited by Cricket South Africa for the ‘Annual Nelson Mandela Dinner’ scheduled on January 2. However, it is still not certain whether the BCCI bigwigs will travel to the Rainbow Nation to attend the prestigious event following the emergence of the Omicron variant that has caused a spike in COVID-19 cases in the region.
