India Tour of South-Africa – CSA Guarantees BCCI: Amid issues surrounding Covid-19 virus, the series between India vs South Africa is already getting played behind closed doors. According to CSA’s chief medical officer Dr Shuaib Manjra, the South African government has agreed that even if the borders will be closed – Indian team will be allowed to immediately fly out in case of any issue.

“If there needs to be repatriation and the borders are closed, the government has given a guarantee that they will allow the players and the team to go back to India.

“I think we’ve taken whatever measures we can to ensure that the Indian team is not only safe here, but should they need to leave for whatever reason, that the path is open for them to leave at any point that they wish.”, Manjra was quoted by News24.

CSA Guarantees BCCIBCCI Satisfied with BIO-BUBBLE Measures: With the country going through its fourth Covid-19 wave and the advent of the Omicron variant – lot of question marks are & were raised over the series.

But the BCCI overall is satisfied with the steps taken by CSA to safeguard the Indian cricket team from any virus threat.

“We are regularly in touch with CSA officials & the Indian team management in South-Africa. Team is having very comfortable stay. As now the series is behind closed doors – any threat further gets diminished. CSA also has assured in case of any untoward, Indian team will be immediately given permissions to fly out”, told the BCCI offiical.

CSA’s strict instructions & guidelines for the hotel: Indian team instead of staying at the hotel is staying at IRENE COUNTRY LODGE. The local board has booked the complete resort for the Indian team and no outside guests are allowed at the resort. 

Even the lodge staff is staying in a bio-bubble.

  • No outside guest allowed in the hotel
  • The staff involved are already quarantining at the hotel
  • Regular testing is being done for the staff
  • Everything that comes on to the property is thoroughly checked to ensure that all the health and safety requirements are met
  • The hotel has been zoned off into various sectors to ensure that there is no contamination.
  • Covid-19 compliance officers are appointed at the hotel


CSA has now guaranteed India no-obligation exit from the country should there be border closures. Indian cricket team also has been guaranteed and secured hospital beds in case of emergencies.


“In case an Indian player needs to be hospitalised for whatever reason, we’ve approached some of the hospital groups who’ve guaranteed us beds in hospitals,” said Manjra.


India was originally scheduled to arrive in SA on 9 December for a three-Test, three-ODI and four-T20 tour.

However, a change to the tour schedule saw the four T20 internationals postponed. The Indian team led by Virat Kohli travelled on 16 December for a series starting with the first Test at Centurion on Boxing Day.

  • Overall India has played 7 Test Series in South Africa & has never been succesful.
  • 2010 Series was India’s beat performance – India managed drawing the 3 test series 1-1 under MS Dhoni.
  • In 20 Test Matches in SA – India has only won 3 Test Matches, Lost 10 & have drawn 7
  • In the last series in 2018, India lost the series 2-1
