Mayank Agarwal had been going through a rough patch in Test cricket, before he turned it all around with a sensational 150 against New Zealand at the Wankhede earlier this month.  Agarwal credited new head coach Rahul Dravid for the change, suggesting that it was the Indian batting legend who infused confidence in him.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Mayank Agarwal revealed specifics from his conversation with Rahul Dravid before his knock at the Wankhede. The Indian opener said, “He said I know you haven’t got a lot of runs but just manage your emotions. Manage your mental energy and your thoughts. Don’t dwell too much on it, he helped in the mental aspect. n the technical aspect, he insisted that this is the technique which gave you a lot of runs in the past. Just stick to that, the runs will come. Back the things that have worked for you, and fortunately in the very next innings, the runs came.”

Mayank Agarwal scored a fine 150 on a challenging track, before a qucik0fre 62 in the second innings which helped India clinch a mammoth 372-run win, their biggest in terms of runs in Test history.  Now, the Karnataka star is keen to continue building on that performance and was seen practising with his coach RX Murali in Bangalore. Agarwal is named in India’s squad for the South Africa tour, and will be keen to make an impact should he get an opportunity.

Mayank Agarwal is unlikely to make the XI against South Africa for the 1st Test, with KL Rahul returning from an injury that kept him out of the New Zealand Test. Agarwal’s long-time Karnataka teammate, Rahul filled in for Mayank in England and formed a vital partnership with Rohit Sharma at the top, which is likely to continue against the Proteas.
