Youngsters Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan part of India’s long-term plan?

  • Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have been a part of the Indian team for quite sometime.
  • While Kishan boasts a strike-rate of 131.16, Gill has an outstanding average of 57.9 in ODIs.
  • Gill can be an ideal replacement for KL Rahul at top of the order.
  • Kishan can be a perfect middle-order candidate for India in T20Is.
  • With Dinesh Karthik almost out of India’s T20 future plans, the selectors can finally give a permanent place to Sanju Samson in the T20I squad.
  • The talented batter has played just 16 T20I matches but has an excellent strike-rate of 135.16.
  • Both Kishan and Samson are the prominent contenders to take the wicketkeeper role for India in the upcoming series against NewZealand.

Ashwin OUT, Sundar IN?  Bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar will be a like-for-like replacement of Ravichandran Ashwin. Just like Ashwin, Sundar bowls off-spin and is quite handy with the bat as well. Sundar has done well in T20Is in the past and was India’s highest-ranked bowler at one time. Due to injury issues, the young off-spinner has not been able to play regularly. It will be interesting to see if he can stay injury-free for a long time and become a match-winner for the country.

Umran Malik perfect replacement for Shami or Bhuvneshwar? It was quite evident that team India were desperately missing raw pace during the T20 World Cup 2022. While Mohammed Shami was clocking between 135km/h to 140km/h, the senior pacer looked in-effective on Australian pitches. Another senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was successful in the initial phase of the tournament, but nothing went in his favour as he bowled on the flat track of Adelaide.

With 157 kmph, 155.6 kmph and 154.8 kmph, Umran had three of the five fastest deliveries bowled in IPL 2022 to his name. The express pacer brings an X-factor to the Indian team and can make things happen even on flat tracks. Umran can turn out to be quite expensive sometimes, but that’s the cost of having a bowler who can scare the batters with a barrage of short-length deliveries. Umran is an ideal candidate to replace either Shami or Bhuvneshwar in India’s T20 set-up.
