India tour of England: With Rishabh Pant testing COVID positive, Wriddhiman Saha in isolation, Who will keep wickets for Team India?

India tour of England – Who will replace Rishabh Pant? Few weeks ago, the player was spotted with a friend at a packed Wembley Stadium enjoying the Euro 2020 knock-out match between England and Germany, and it is being reliably learnt that 10 days back Pant tested positive. With Pant tested positive Shah was supposed to take his place in the side however, he is also in isolation. Wriddhiman Saha is asked to remain in isolation by BCCI as he came in close contact with India’s throwdown specialist Dayananda Garani who has also contracted the virus.

Notably, Saha had earlier tested positive for coronavirus in May, in the build-up to the suspension of IPL 2021. He had later recovered from the infection ahead of India’s tour of England.

KL Rahul to don gloves – India is set to play a three-day warm-up game at Emirates Riverside against County XI starting on Tuesday. In the absence of both Pant and Saha, KL Rahul will have to step up to keep wickets. This will be the first time that KL Rahul will be keeping the wickets in red-ball cricket. If Pant could not recover from the Covid and Shah Test positive after the isolation period then KL Rahul can be seen behind the wickets.

Saha is already struggling with the form and if KL Rahul impresses in the practice match with his wicket-keeping then team mangement can also think of trying him ahead of Saha. Rahul who made his Test debut in 2014 has the experience of playing in England with a century under his belt as well. Earlier team management had said that they are looking at KL Rahul as a middle-order batsman and not as an opener.

Rahul has the experience of wicket-keeping in the limited-overs international cricket and IPL. He has also kept wickets in domestic cricket, however, it will be interesting to see if he could manage to do it on an international level.
