India Tour of England – KL Rahul Injury Update – Injury-prone KL Rahul faces yet another trouble as the Indian wicketkeeper batter is a doubtful starter in the 5th test match against England. A major decision for Rahul’s inclusion into the squad will be taken this week. India will play the fifth and the last test match of the extended series from last year. Following the conclusion of the IPL 2022, the Indian squad was announced for the South Africa tour of India series where Rahul was named as the skipper of the Men in Blue. Days before the first T20I, Rahul pulled out of the squad owing to a groin strain and his return date is currently unsure.

KL Rahul was named as the vice-captain of the Indian squad that will travel to England next week. India is scheduled to play 3 T20Is and 3ODI matches along with the remaining test match. The fifth and the final test match had to be rescheduled after the covid cases in the Indian camp rose last year. With Rahul doubtful for the test, Pant could become the vice-captain of the squad.

The time needed for the recovery of the batter is currently unknown. It is believed that Rahul has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the diagnosis is under process. There are also several doubts that Rahul might have to miss the T20I and ODI series as well. Team India will travel to England in two batches, first on 16th June and then on 20th June.

The BCCI said, “Team India Captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa owing to a right groin injury while Kuldeep Yadav will miss out in the T20I series after getting hit on his right hand while batting in the nets last evening.”

It is unsure as to whether the BCCI and the selectors will opt to add a fresh opener to the Indian team. With Rahul missing our=t, the remaining two openers available in the team are skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill.

However, there will be another batch of players leaving for Ireland and England. A separate white-ball squad will be announced for Ireland and England tour on by June 20 and the players will leave on June 22 for Ireland.

After playing two T20s against Ireland on June 26 and 28, some of them will join the squad in England for three T20Is and as many ODIs. The rest will return to India. A selection meeting will be held after the South Africa series.
