India Tour of England: Alarm bells have started to ring in Team India after KL Rahul was ruled out of the South Africa series with a groin injury. But with England series around the corner, the BCCI isn’t taking this lightly. Instead of completing the rehab process at the National Cricket Academy, Rahul is likely to board the flight on June 16 for the UK. “We will get a full picture when he checks in at the NCA. He will do that in a day or two. But as per the team physio, it’s not very serious in nature. We are making arrangements to send him to the UK with the first batch to complete his recovery there,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

However, what is worrying the BCCI is KL Rahul’s recurring injuries. The vice-captain of Team India has missed four series in the last seven months with injuries. Furthermore, he had to be sent for scans during IPL 2022 with a nagging hamstring problem. But it was not serious in nature.
KL Rahul injury Timeline:

- February 2021 – Hamstring: KL Rahul missed the T20 series against West Indies after suffering a left hamstring injury.
- February 2021 – Hamstring: He failed to recover in time and missed the T20 against Sri Lanka.

With India set for a marathon of bilateral fixtures in the run-up to the T20 World Cup in October, the BCCI has already rolled out a rotation policy. That is why Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are unavailable for the T20 series against South Africa.
The first batch of players including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will leave for England on June 16. The rest of the players like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer besides head coach Rahul Dravid will leave for the UK on June 19 from Bengaluru after the 5th T20.

KL Rahul will leave with the first batch but if the BCCI is not able to make the arrangements in time, he will leave with the second batch and continue recovery there.
“He should be available for the Test in England but it’s too early to say anything. What we know so far is that the injury is not very serious but he was withdrawn from the South Africa series as a precaution,” the BCCI official said.
India will play a warm-up match against Leicestershire from June 24 but KL Rahul is unlikely to be available for that.
