India T20 WC Squad: ICC T20 WC: Mohammed Shami is all set to be promoted to India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad. India’s first choice and premium pacer, Jasprit Bumrah has got injured. And various reports suggest that he is out of the Indian T20 WC squad. This is a big setback for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who will now promote Mohd Shami to the main squad from reserves. Another like-to-like replacement other than Deepak Chahar that will be on standby in the WC squad will be Umesh Yadav. Follow InsideSport.IN for LIVE updates about ICC T20 World Cup 2022

The spearhead of the Indian bowling Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of T20 World Cup following his rushed return. Bumrah complained of back pain during practice and was immediately withdrawn from all training routines before 1st T20 between India vs South Africa. But the damage was already done. He is set to miss 4-6 months with the back injury even if he doesn’t require surgery.

Due to a back injury, Bumrah missed the Asia Cup in August and September. However, he was selected for the ensuing home T20I series against Australia and South Africa. Before missing the opening match against South Africa on September 28 due to a back ailment, he played the second and third T20Is against Australia on September 23 and 25. He registered figures of  1/23 and 0/50 respectively in both those matches.

India T20 WC Squad: Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement

For the World Cup, India has two fast bowlers in reserve in Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar. It is likely that team management will put their faith behind Shami as he is set to be included in the main squad.

Mohammed Shami who is out of the ongoing T20 series vs South Africa has just recovered from COVID-19. He will need to undergo the BCCI’s mandated fitness tests before he can be eligible for selection again. Having missed the Australia T20Is, he is out of the South Africa T20Is too.

There are very high chances that Umesh Yadav will also fly to Australia. He will be named in India’s reserves. Umesh Yadav, who was named Shami’s replacement for the Australia series, has also been included in the squad for the T20Is against South Africa.

If Umesh Yadav’s inclusion to the Indian side was surprising after Mohammed Shami tested COVID positive, him getting picked ahead of Deepak Chahar, a standby for the T20 World Cup, raised more eyebrows. But in hindsight it all makes sense now, considering Bumrah is out of the World Cup. It can now be argued that BCCI knew what was going on with Jasprit Bumrah and they knowingly decided to go for a safe bet in Umesh Yadav if things went south for Men in Blue.

India is one of the teams that has already qualified for the Super 12 stage of the competition and is permitted to make changes to their team until October 15.

Earlier, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was also forced to withdraw from the competition due to a knee injury. Bumrah would be the second significant player that India would be without at the competition.

India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, and two other teams from the qualifying round are all in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 round. On October 23, India will face Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
