India T20 WC squad: Big takeaways from India’s T20 WC squad

  • Head coach Rahul Dravid and the selectors have decided to trust the process even though things haven’t worked out in Asia Cup.
  • Deepak Hooda and Dinesh Karthik retain their places.
  • Axar Patel also gets his chance as a replacement for injured Ravindra Jadeja.
  • The selectors have gone ahead with an all-rounder option instead of going with a specialist batter like Shreyas Iyer.
  • Sanju Samson has once again been ignored with Dinesh Karthik getting the go-ahead as a finisher.
  • Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have both returned to boost India’s pace attack.
  • Arshdeep Singh has trumped Avesh Khan to get the nod for T20 WC.
  • Rishabh Pant is the only specialist left-hander batter in the squad and hence, he retains his place.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin gets the green signal thanks to his experience in place of Ravi Bishnoi.
  • India have four spinners in the squad in Ashwin, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Hooda as a part-timer.
