India T20 WC Squad: Two big issues sorted – Hardik Pandya’s fitness & ready to serve as an all-rounder, Deepak Hooda bankable option number 3

Pandya’s performance has been heartening to see with bat and ball. He scored 100 runs in three ODIs and picked up 6 wickets at an impressive average of 12.33. In the T20 series also, the all-rounder put in an impressive performance in three T20Is. While batting in three T20I innings, Hardik scored 63 runs and accounted for 5 wickets.

Pandya delivered with bat and ball and bailed the team out of crunch situations with both bat and ball. He was also named player of the series in the ODI leg of England Tour.

Another big positive for India has been Deepak Hooda. The all-rounder grabbed his opportunities with both hands and has scored 205 runs in 4 T20I innings. He also scored a majestic 100 against Ireland and showed his vast array of strokes. Hooda batted at three and looked assured at the crease. The right-hand batter played the sheet anchor role to perfection just as Kohli has been doing at number three.

India T20 WC Squad: Two big problems to emerge – Virat Kohli’s form and the fitness of Indian players

Insidesport

Kohli’s wretched run of form has seen without scoring a century across formats for close to three years. Against England also the former captain played a few gorgeous shots, but that one big elusive score eluded him. Kohli could muster only 11, 20, 1, 11, 16, and 17 across formats during England Tour. Kohli not scoring a 50 also has become a huge concern for India. His teammates and fans would now be hoping the one-month break will help him reverse his fortunes.

Another concern is India playing too much cricket before the T20 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led side are set to play 13 T20Is before the showpiece event. Players might get fatigued and would not be able to show good form during the T20 World Cup, just like the disastrous 2021 WC.
