India T20 Squad WI Tour – India vs West Indies Squad: The BCCI has announced India squad for the tour of West Indies. As reported by InsideSport earlier, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been handed rest while KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav has also been included. However, the inclusion of Rahul and Kuldeep is subject to fitness. However, it is a big surprise that the selectors have named five spinners in the 18-man squad, sans Yuzvendra Chahal.

Barring Bumrah, Kohli and Chahal, India have announced a strong squad with an eye on the T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled in a couple of months time. Interestingly, they have once again gone with three specialist wicketkeeper batters, including Dinesh Karthik.

India Squad WestIndies TOUR – T20 Series

  • Virat Kohli RESTED for entire WestIndies ODI & T20 Series
  • Selectors say, he will be in TEAM Plans for Asia Cup & T20 World Cup
  • Jasprit Bumrah also rested for the T20 Series
  • Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul makes a comeback
  • Yuzvendra Chahal also rested, selectors pick five other spinners

The BCCI is also using this series to look at potential spinners for the T20 World Cup as well. Yuzvendra Chahal, who is India’s number one spinner in the shortest format, has been given rest. It gives other spinners in the squad, including Ravi Bishnoi, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav among others to shine. However, taking five spinners in the squad is one too many and it does not make sense when the team is looking ahead at the World Cup in Australia.

The five-match T20 series starting July 29 could prove to be a final audition for players before the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. For players like Deepak Hooda, it may be a great opportunity to shine and seal his place for Australia as well.

Kuldeep Yadav Coming Back: As reported earlier by InsideSport, Kuldeep has recovered from his injury. He also has completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.  He had injured his finger while batting in the nets during India’s T20I series against South Africa at home. However, he needs to prove his fitness to fly to West Indies.

  • The five-match T20I series against the West Indies will start from July 29 and will go on till August 7.
  • The first match will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad
  • This will be followed by the other two games, both of which will take place at the Warner Park in St Kitts.
  • The series will conclude with the final two games to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida.
