Iyer underwent back surgery on Tuesday in London, according to a report in the Times of India.
The 28-year-old is anticipated to miss three months of practice before returning and ideally will be fully recovered by the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Shreyas Iyer only recently achieved a full recovery from a back injury – when he returned in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 before suffering a setback. Iyer participated in the first two days of the most recent Test match in Ahemdabad against Australia before being sidelined.

Jasprit Bumrah recovering at NCA!
Team India in recent times has been plagued with injuries. Not only Shreyas Iyer but ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also recently went surgery.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic that Jasprit Bumrah will be totally fit for ODI WC 2023. The speedster went under the knife for the back issue in New Zealand. In preparation for the ODI World Cup, the right-arm fast bowler has returned to NCA, and BCCI is laying up a recovery plan for him.
The ODI World Cup 2023 will be held in India from October 5 to November 11.
Bumrah last competed for India in October 2022, for those who are unaware. The Mumbai Indians pacer has since missed the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. Although the fast bowler was selected for the Sri Lanka series, but BCCI paid the price for pushing him too quickly as his back problem flared up once more.
Bumrah has also been ruled out of IPL 2023, World Test Championship Final 2023, and Asia Cup 2023.
WTC Final 2023
The ICC World Test Championship: From June 7 to June 11, 2023, the Oval in London will host the second WTC Final between Australia and India. Australia’s 17-person squad, led by Pat Cummins, has been announced.
The Indian team has not yet been revealed. The WTC Final is referred to as the most important competition for Test-playing countries.
