“Yes, Virat has informed he is unavailable for the T20s. He will return for the ODI series. It’s unclear at the moment whether he is taking a sabbatical from T20Is. But of course, he will be in plans for important series. As for Rohit, it looks tough and we don’t want to rush his return. Whether he is fit is a call that will be made in the due course. He is batting but can’t take the risk in feeding,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Virat Kohli T20 Break: With focus on building a team for the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli’s absence will make it easier for the selectors. India are looking into a T20 Reboot with many seniors have been axed along with KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik besides Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammad Shami. Skipper Rohit Sharma is also a major absentee. While he is yet to be fit, it is likely that Hardik Pandya will be the permanent captain.
A 34-year-old Kohli despite being at the pinnacle of fitness wants to manage his workload. While he is not out of 2024 WC plans, he will be focusing more on the longer formats. But he will keep his T20 game going in the IPL. Before IPL, India will play 6 T20s with a young team.
Rohit Sharma Injury – The Indian captain is nursing the thumb injury he suffered during IND BAN 2nd ODI. With the Australia series coming up in February, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any risks. The medical team will conduct an injury assessment. He will return for the ODI series only if he is 100%.
