Rohit Sharma joined the selection meeting via video conferencing. But he won’t be available for the T20 series. Rohit is racing against time to be fit for the ODI series as well. While he has been named as the captain, a call will be made based on his fitness.
“Rohit is yet to be 100% and we don’t want to take any risk when it comes to injury. Jadeja and Bumrah are back at the NCA. Their prognosis is good. If they clear the fitness test, they will be eligible for selection,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma Injury – The Indian captain is nursing the thumb injury he suffered during IND BAN 2nd ODI. With the Australia series coming up in February, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any risks. The medical team will conduct an injury assessment. He will return only if he is 100%.
IND vs SL Series: What is Rohit’s injury status?
- The board is not ready to take any risk whatsoever with Rohit’s injury,
- In previous cases, it rushed players like Deepak Chahar, & Jasprit Bumrah, and paid the price.
- With Australia Test series coming up in February, the board wants to make sure Rohit’s thumb is fully healed.
- A place in the WTC final spot is at stake, and the India opener’s availability for the Australia series is vital.
- Rohit is currently feeling some stiffness in his thumb. BCCI medical team has advised Rohit a complete rehab.
- The duration of it is still not known, but for now, it may take three to four weeks.
Ravindra Jadeja Injury – The all-rounder was set to return for the Bangladesh tour. But with no improvement, he missed out. He is also back at the NCA at the moment. He had an injury assessment before the IPL auction. He is progressing well but he is still not 100% and will continue on the sidelines. He is likely to return in the NZ series.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury – The other superstar of Indian cricket, Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since the Australia series. His half-baked rushed return following yet another back injury cost him the T20 World Cup. While he is recovering well, selectors did not want to take any risks.
As reported by InsideSport, Rishabh Pant has been axed from both ODI and T20 teams following a string of poor shows. Selectors have trusted Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in T20s. With KL Rahul donning the big gloves, Ishan Kishan is the only backup keeper in ODIs.
