Leave aside appointmment of selection committee, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) are yet to even start the processing of interviewing the candidates.

That is the reason, BCCI now is set to go back to Chetan Sharma panel. The series starts with a T20I at the Wankhede in Mumbai on January 3.

  • For a January 3 start, the team has to assemble three days in advance, preferably by December 31,
  • This means the team selection should be completed by 26 Dec at least.
  • The officials think the CAC may take a little longer to finalise the new panel.

“We should appoint new selection committee by next week. The process will be completed. If not, we already have selection committee in place. We will ask them to select the T20 team”, said a top official in BCCI.

India Squad SL Series – The selection for the squad of SriLanka series also gains more importance because in all likelhood new captain for Indian team also has to be formalized.

Hardik Pandya is tipped to take over Rohit Sharma.

“The current selection committee has no say in anything other than recommendation and team selection. Making a change in captaincy is a big call and without a fixed selection committee will be a big blunder. Not all are in favour of Rohit’s removal. He has only been the captain for a year,” another BCCI official close to the development told InsideSport.

So what next?

For now, the BCCI has asked the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee members to watch the second round Ranji Trophy games. The communique was sent to the BCCI at the last minute and the selectors could reach the venues a day late.

While chairman Sharma and Harvinder Singh are in Delhi where a few games are taking place, Debasis Mohanty has traveled to Kolkata for the Bengal-Himachal game while Sunil Joshi is in Mumbai for the Mumbai-Hyderabad game.
