India Squad for SA: Selectors STUNNED with Indian pacers’ GREAT FORM in IPL 2022, say ‘It’s best headache to have’
In Top 10 of the IPL 2022 Purple Cap Race, five are Indian pacers. Barring Mohammed Shami, four are young pacers.
There are also the likes of Arshdeep Singh, who have been tremendously economical and impressive in the death overs. Lucknow Super Giants’ Mohsin Khan is also one of them, although he is not amongst the top wicket-takers.
With the five-match South Africa series and two-match series against Ireland perfect opportunity for the selectors to test the bench, most of them will be called up.
Although the selection committee member did not say who will be picked, he said Umran, Arshdeep and Avesh are in their plans.

India Squad for SA: Young Indian pacers impress selectors
- Umran Malik has been a real threat with speed despite his poor economy rate.
- With 21 wickets in 13 matches, he is the best Indian pacer in IPL 2022.
- Arshdeep Singh has been excellent with his yorkers. His exceptional death bowling with an economy rate of just 7.82 makes him one of the best death-overs bowlers.
- Harshal Patel hasn’t replicated his 32-wicket form of IPL 2021 but he has been economical and has kept the batters guessing with his variations and slower deliveries.
- T Natarajan was very expensive against Mumbai Indians but he too has had a great IPL campaign with 18 wickets.
- The newcomer Mohsin Khan has been the best economical bowler in IPL 2022.
- Moshin Khan is the only pacer to have an economy rate below 6, bowling 100 balls or more.
- He has an economy rate of 5.93 and has bagged 13 wickets in 8 matches.
- Prasidh Krishna is the other Indian pacer who has impressed. Fast, accurate and economical, he has been impressive with the new ball and has improved at the death too.
- There is also Khaleel Ahmed, who has made a fine comeback with a new team in Delhi Capitals.

“Mohsin is very new to IPL and will need to adjust. He has been impressive and we are monitoring his progress. He will be part of India A team in the future when the A tours begin. For now, we will discuss his name for the South Africa series. It is always nice to see an effective left-arm pacer,” the selection committee member said.
Prasidh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan and Avesh Khan have already been in the Team India setup. Now, it’s time for Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. They are all set to be called up for the South Africa series. Selectors will also discuss Mohsin Khan’s name but his inexperience in IPL could go against him.
Prasidh will be part of the squad for the England tour. However, selectors will discuss Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s name for both tours. T Natarajan, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh besides Umran Malik are likely for the South Africa and Ireland tour. The squads will be announced by May 23.
