Some reports claimed that the same squad for Ireland tour will be retained for the England series. But one of the selectors confirmed to InsideSport that all senior players will be available.

“All senior players will be available for the England series. Yes, we have to carry a larger squad because of the two warm-up T20s but Rohit & Virat and other first-team players will be available,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport on Tuesday.

But instead of a 15-member squad, India is expected to have a larger squad at disposal for the two warm-up matches. Most of the players from the Ireland tour will be available for the warm-up games before making way for senior players for the T20 series against England starting July 7.

“We have a set team. We just need to trim it a little for the England series to accommodate the seniors. Some of the guys will return home after the Ireland series. We will have a selection meeting soon. We will have a larger squad for contingency as the team will not be in a bio-bubble,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

The selectors will also have to pick two squads for ODIs and T20Is for the England tour. With Shikhar Dhawan set to return for the ODI series. Sanju Samson is also expected to be in the ODI series.

India Squad England Series: What will be the combination?

  • KL Rahul is unavailable for the tour as he is nursing a groin injury.
  • Hardik Pandya is also set to make a comeback to ODI squad.
  • Shikhar Dhawan who is not in plans for T20Is will get a recall for ODI series and is set to open with Rohit Sharma.
  • Selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma is with the team in Ireland and in England to oversee proceedings.
  • However, the squad that is travelling to Ireland will not be intact. Many of the players will return home to make way for senior players.
  • But Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik are expected to be backup options and will travel with the squad.
  • India will play two warm-up matches ahead of T20 series against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire on July 1 and 3.
