IND vs ENG Teams:

India (Playing XI): KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant(w), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

England (Playing XI): Jos Buttler(w/c), Alex Hales, Philip Salt, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid

The news from the Indian camp is, that they haven’t tinkered with their playing XI. Though Dravid is not too impressed with Axar Patel and the failure of Rishabh Pant vs Zimbabwe, both have kept their places in XI.

Rohit Sharma at the time of the toss said: “We would have batted first anyway. We’ve played some good cricket, another opportunity for us to play the same way we have all tournament. Important to hold the nerve and take the game till the end.”

“We’ve played these guys a fair bit in recent years and know what strengths-weaknesses they have. Important to exploit that. Important to stay calm and do what we want to do. It (injury) was a scare but I’m fine now. The kind of talent we have, it was a tough one (to pick the XI). Same team for us,” he added.

Rohit Sharma said he is not too worried about Axar Patel’s form.

“To be honest, not really worried, as such, because he hardly got to bowl in this tournament. Except that game against Netherlands, he’s not bowled full overs of his quota, only because of the condition that has to offer. We’ve got four seamers who have particularly bowled all of their quotas, which means the spinners will not bowl their overs,” Rohit Sharma said at the pre-match press conference.

IND ENG Semifinal LIVE: Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma spent some time on the middle of Adelaide. India are set to get a used pitch and that means it is expected to be on the slower side. That could mean a first appearance at the tournament for experienced leggie Yuzvendra Chahal, with the Adelaide Oval pitch generally one that suits the slower bowlers.

India PlayingXI vs England: What changes can be expected?

  • One area of small concern for Dravid is the form of Axar Patel.
  • The all-rounder has just taken three wickets from four matches at the T20 World Cup so far.
  • He is yet to contribute a score greater than seven with the bat.
  • Axar’s only over against Pakistan at the MCG was hit for 21 runs.
  • He was even more expensive against Zimbabwe on Sunday when allowing 40 runs from 3.2 overs.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal who is yet to get a game in T20 WC is another option.
  • But Chahal’s inclusion will come at a cost, weakening India’s batting.
  • However, as England have struggled against wrist spinners, Chahal could be Rohit’s trump card.
  • The other position up for debate is the wicketkeeper’s.
  • Despite strong start to DK 2.0, Dinesh Karthik has fizzled out. He has often looked ordinary on two-paced surfaces.
  • As Rishabh Pant has had a good record against England, Team India is likely to keep trust in the youngster.
  • That would mean Dinesh Karthik sitting out for one more time.

Dravid said Axar’s form was a slight worry for his side.

“In a few games (it is a concern), but he’s had good games, as well. That is the nature of this tournament and this format. The nature of this format is such that you can get taken apart, especially on a day like today when they lost a lot of wickets there, nothing to lose, they could go after it, and he’s bowled well, as well,” Rahul Dravid said of Axar Patel.

As for other positions, India are set. The top order has returned to form barring Rohit Sharma. The bowling unit has performed superbly. The only worry is the lower-middle order and India will have to fire.
